PlusZero explores hydrogen and alternative fuels in Shetland
In January, PlusZero Ltd facilitated a visit to the Shetland Islands for French hydrogen engineering and development company GHyGA, to explore the potential for Shetland to host GHyGA’s innovative offshore hydrogen and e-methanol production platform.
The visit and itinerary for GHyGA’s CEO, Peter Bamberg, and COO Pierre Maccioni, was coordinated by PlusZero associate Gunther Newcombe OBE, who was joined by PlusZero’s MD David Amos and Business Development Director Rick Minchom for three days on Shetland.
During the visit, the group toured key sites including Sullom Voe, Dales Voe, Scatsta, the Port of Lerwick, and surrounding infrastructure. The visit also included meetings with key senior industry representatives and local authority stakeholders to better understand how hydrogen and synthetic fuels could be integrated into Shetland’s existing energy and industrial landscape.
PlusZero extends its thanks to Shetland Islands Council, Lerwick Port Authority, Ocean Kinetics Ltd and EnQuest PLC for their time and supporting the visit.
GHyGA now plan to submit an application to the European HORIZON programme to seek funding support to move their plans forward.
