Schools Climate Assembly Powered by Green Hydrogen for the First Time
PlusZero delighted to support this powerful youth assembly’s ambitions and inspire next generation
Climate summit delivered in partnership with Friends of the Earth significantly reduces its carbon footprint during its annual event by using clean portable power.
Involving around 1,500 school pupils from schools across the UK, this year’s School Climate Assembly, the second since its launch in 2021, took the bold decision to relinquish the use of polluting diesel generators to power its day-long event programme held at King Edward VII Upper School, Sheffield on 20th October.
PlusZero was delighted to be asked to provide a carbon-free portable solution to power the event’s dynamic programme, which included talks, debates, audio-visual presentations, interactive voting and live performances. Guest speakers included environmentalist Chris Packham and event sponsor and philanthropist Gregory Nasmyth, among many others.
PlusZero Power is focused on efforts to decarbonise sectors currently using diesel generators with clean-fuel alternatives such as hydrogen-fuelled internal combustion engines (HICE). These machines are less negatively impactful on the environment and audience health than diesel generators and are just as easy to use. PlusZero, launched in 2021 by founder David Amos, creates portable, zero-carbon generators that are powered by green hydrogen from renewable electricity generated on the Scottish islands, with the aim of replacing greenhouse gas-emitting diesel generators.
PlusZero’s range of combustion-engine based generators offer the fastest, most reliable and cost-effective approach to meeting the varied demand for carbon-zero, portable power in the events sector.
Welcoming PlusZero’s support, Schools Climate Assembly Founder and former Executive Director of Greenpeace UK, John Sauven, said:
“The original idea behind the Schools Climate Assembly was to provide a platform that would inform rather than terrify tomorrow's citizens and activists. Technologies that replace fossil fuels help us decarbonise our society, providing us with an important means of dealing with the climate crisis.
We’re delighted to lead by example, reducing our own Schools Climate Assembly carbon footprint by working with PlusZero at this event. They are the UK’s leading provider of clean portable power solutions and a major new producer of green hydrogen. PlusZero, with its expertise and values focused on protecting the environment, represents the kind of new renewable energy business that young people can be inspired by”. ENDS

About PlusZero
PlusZero is transforming the clean energy sector – the driver for new economic growth worldwide. Its Green Hydrogen from the Western Isles provides a carbon- zero, pollution-free source of fuel for the 21st century.
PlusZero uses surplus electricity produced by local renewable wind power to split water into hydrogen and oxygen using a process called electrolysis. This captures renewable energy that would otherwise be lost (as the sun doesn’t always shine or wind always blow). PlusZero therefore unlocks the full promise of renewable energy.
PlusZero then uses this Green Hydrogen to fuel hydrogen combustion engines, giving customers clean power wherever they need it. PlusZero has been powering outdoor events since early 2021 and is increasing its hydrogen generator range to meet the varied demand for clean portable power in the events, outdoor filming, construction and industrial sectors.
The company’s expert team and extensive networks of hydrogen & engineering specialists give it unparalleled insight into fast-evolving hydrogen technologies. Collaboration is central to PlusZero’s strategic approach. It works together with public sector, community, and business partners in the Western Isles, the UK, and beyond to secure direct community and environmental benefits – above all, clean energy.
PlusZero - a community-based solution with a global footprint.
