Scottish Government’s Hydrogen Action Plan To Provide A Welcome Boost To Scotland’s Hydrogen Economy
PlusZero has welcomed the Scottish Government’s five- year Hydrogen Action Plan, published on 10 November 2021, containing the government’s strategic approach to cement Scotland’s place as a leading nation in the production of eligible, competitive and sustainable hydrogen.
The ambitions laid out in the five-year Capital Investment Programme include targets for hydrogen to provide nearly a sixth of Scotland’s energy needs by 2030 and commitments of £100million funding to boost the hydrogen economy, with a focus on supporting regional renewable hydrogen production hubs and projects.
The first round of investment will be a £10million Hydrogen Innovation Fund to be launched next year to drive technological progress and advance innovation within the sector.
PlusZero was the only start-up to be featured as a case study in the Action Plan alongside Scottish Power and INEOS, outlining PlusZero’s innovative solutions to decarbonise the events sector with its zero-carbon hydrogen combustion engine generators fuelled by hydrogen sourced from the Western Isles and Orkney.
Founder and Managing Director of PlusZero, David Amos, said:
“The publication of the Action Plan provides a welcome boost to businesses within the sector and to Scotland’s ambitions to reach netzero by 2045.
“I am delighted that PlusZero has been featured in the Scottish Government’s plans as an example of an innovative business which is harnessing the true potential of green hydrogen on Scottish shores. PlusZero is grateful to the Scottish Government for its support for this project and we look forward to progressing our plans into commercial deployment in 2022.”
